This dataset is provided as an annex to the report Maritime routes to Europe: Focus on the overseas route to the Canary Islands.
HOW TO USE THIS DATASET
This dataset includes all available data on attempted migrant crossings of the Mediterranean Sea from 2016 - 2020, i.e. the numbers of people recorded as:
- arriving irregularly in Spain, Italy, Malta, Greece and Cyprus;
- being intercepted at sea by the Tunisian, Libyan and Turkish Coast Guards;
- fatalities recorded in the Mediterranean Sea by IOM's Missing Migrants Project.
These data are provided by the International Organization for Migration and are updated annually. The source for each data series is listed at the bottom of each column, with notes wherever relevant.
