Missing Migrants Project tracks deaths of migrants, including refugees and asylum-seekers, who have died or gone missing in the process of migration towards an international destination. Please note that these data represent minimum estimates, as many deaths during migration go unrecorded. We strongly encourage users to read more about our methodology before using this data online or in our data collection guidelines.

Data on attempted crossings of the Mediterranean Sea 2016-2024 can be downloaded here, including data on arrivals in Europe, interceptions by North African and Turkish Coast Guards, and migrant deaths and disappearances. This dataset is linked to our briefing 'Calculating “Death Rates” in the Context of Migration Journeys: Focus on the Central Mediterranean.'
